Precision Shooting School

The Bar K Ranch offers shooting courses taught by a retired U.S. Army Green Beret who served as a sniper and CQB instructor. Our core multi-day course includes classroom instruction, hands-on help, extensive field firing, and an unforgettable "west of the Pecos" Texas ranch experience. Our courses go far beyond the basics:

  • Weapon Mastery: safe handling, meticulous setup, and precise zeroing.
  • Ballistic Science: understanding MILs, MOA, DOPE books, and environmental influences.
  • Advanced Techniques: positional shooting, rapid target acquisition, shot calling, and adapting to challenging terrain and variable wind.
  • Customization: we offer a Precision Rifle/long Range course, Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR)/mid-range course, and a close range/flat range Carbine and pistol course. Basic pistol training can be added to the Precision Rifle or DMR courses.
  • Put Your New Skills to Work: depending on your interest and time available, we offer the chance to hunt wild hogs and other predators.

Whether you're a seasoned hunter looking to extend your range to 1,000+ meters or a dedicated enthusiast seeking to refine your skills, our course provides the tools and experience to achieve those goals. Our ideal class size is 4-6 students, working in shooter/spotter pairs. This ensures personalized attention and focused learning in a proven training program.

An Unforgettable Adventure

This isn't just a shooting course – it's an experience you won't forget. You'll spend up to a week on a West Texas cattle ranch along the iconic lower Pecos River. Our 3,700 acres of hills, river, canyons, and fields offer a dynamic and challenging shooting environment (and good hunting). You'll test your skills against unpredictable winds and varied terrain, including deep canyons and steep angles.

Accommodations include two new 4-bed bunkhouses or a cabin overlooking the Pecos River and hearty, family style meals at the headquarters cantina — a refurbished barn from the ranch's early days.

Hunting and Other Ranch Diversions

Depending on your interest, we can carve out time for other activities, including exciting hunts for feral hogs and nighttime predator calling. Additional activities include unwinding by the fire pit, pitching horseshoes, and hiking and exploring to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the West Texas landscape.

Nuts and Bolts

Course fees will vary based on size of the group, number of days, and your interests, but you can expect around $5,000 - $7,000 per person for a 4 - 6 person class (smaller classes available). This covers shooting instruction, hog hunting, bunkhouse lodging, and family style hot meals.

What to Bring: your preferred weapons suitable to the course selected, 50 – 100 rounds of ammunition per day (plus pistol), shooting kit (bipod, pad, ear and eye protection, etc.), clothing for a wide range of temperatures and terrain, and transportation to the ranch (we're happy to assist with arrangements and have worked with a local shop to coordinate purchase and delivery of ammunition). If you're interested in purchasing equipment for the course, we're happy to help with selection of rifles, scopes, ammunition, bipods, and other gear.
