Livestock

We run mostly Angus cattle, several longhorns, and Spanish goats.  Our stock is range fed, with little supplemental feed (mostly to keep them coming up when we need them to). Studies show that running cattle and goats together can improve rangeland productivity and yield for both species (e.g., https://extension.okstate.edu/...). Cattle and goats have different diets, and goats eat woody plants, helping to control spread of brush and improve rangeland carrying capacity. Because we stock conservatively, we've had good calf crops (so far), even during drought. After predators hammered our kid crop in 2022, we got two guardian dogs, Gus and Call (a mix of Akbash, Anatolian, and Great Pyrenees). Fingers crossed we do better!
