In general, adventures on the Bar K are self-guided, though we can point you to productive areas. If you're interested in a guided fishing trip, you can contact us to arrange one with one of our partners specializing in guided fly fishing trips: Far West Texas Outfitters (https://farwesttexasoutfitters...) and Expedition Outfitters (https://expedition-outfitters....).
Your stay at the Bar K is, for the most part, self-catered. Our staff can arrange for a ranch cook to prepare dinner for you for a few nights and leave you with a breakfast casserole or the like for a few of your days. We'll need to arrange this in advance, and we can't guarantee availability (the folks out here are pretty busy with the working side of the area ranches).
Contact us via the website link or email us at info@BarKTexas.com. If we have availability, we'll reserve your time after receiving payment (fully refundable until 14 days before your check in date). We'll send you an agreement that contains a waiver of liability and other terms. You must sign and return that agreement and the Texas agritourism acknowledgement before you check in.
Not much. At the HQ, where you'll check in when you arrive, you may have a few bars and WiFi. You may have a little coverage as you drive to the river canyon pasture, but once you drop down into the canyon, there is no reliable cell coverage.
We run a low fence ranch, allowing wild deer and other wildlife to roam naturally. You never know what you're going to see: whitetail deer, mule deer, axis deer, blackbuck antelope, audad sheep, mountain lions, black bears, Catalina goats, javelina . . . we've seen them all.
Yes, unless you are only hunting feral hogs.
Yes. The drive to the ranch from I-10/Ozona or TX 90/Del Rio does not require 4WD, though after a rain the gravel portions of the county roads can be sloppy, with some deep puddles. For the drive from the ranch HQ to the River Cabin, we require 4WD to help ensure an uneventful trip down and back (you're welcome to bring more than one vehicle and leave the 2WD vehicles at the ranch HQ).
We are in the northwest corner of Val Verde County, TX, roughly 65 miles southwest of Ozona and 100 miles northwest of Del Rio. Some of the drive is on unpaved county roads. The closest "town" that appears in Google Maps is the ghost town of Pandale. We'll provide you with detailed driving directions upon booking.
